Resilience and adaptation: how to prepare for tomorrow's natural disasters?

Floods, cyclones, earthquakes... Climate change is leading to an increasing number of natural disasters, which have a lasting impact on populations, resources and infrastructures. These natural hazards are factors of instability that are all the more prevalent in areas already affected by political, economic and social difficulties.

To prevent risks and guarantee an effective response in the event of a natural disaster, countries need to make far-reaching changes to the way they operate, to ensure their resilience and stability. In particular, they must adapt by reducing polluting and environmentally harmful activities, while developing effective risk prevention and management systems at national level, and in conjunction with cross-border countries. To prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters, all players need to be involved, from institutions to civil protection and local communities.

Against this backdrop, how can we strengthen countries' resilience to climate change and natural disasters? To what extent can the exchange of know-how support countries in managing and responding to natural hazards?
