Beijing 2020: towards a new global pact between Man and Nature?

Nine years after the Nagoya World Conference on Biodiversity in 2010, the international community has come to the conclusion that we have failed: scientific assessments show that the degradation of biodiversity is increasing, and that the pressures threatening it are not decreasing - quite the contrary. Almost none of the Aïchi objectives for biodiversity will be achieved.

Why were the Aïchi objectives not achieved? Are the preparatory arrangements agreed at COP 14 in Egypt up to the challenges of such negotiations? How can we ensure the success of future negotiations in Beijing? What lessons can be drawn from the Paris Climate Agreement? What role should France and the European Union play? How can we involve economic players, local authorities and civil society to facilitate negotiations and the implementation of commitments?

This conference-debate was organized by Unesco, the European Union, Expertise France and Entreprises pour l'Environnement, in partnership with: act4nature, AFB, AFD, CNRS, Fondation pour la Recherche sur la Biodiversité , IRD, OREE, IDDRI and WWF.
