A look back at the Rendez-vous de l'Expertise on November 18, 2021

In 20 years, the partnership created around the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has saved 44 million lives. This achievement, the fruit of the work of all the players in the Global Fund ecosystem, is now threatened by the health crisis generated by the Covid-19 epidemic. This has served as a reminder of the permanence and emergence of infectious diseases, but also of the importance of strengthening healthcare systems as part of a global approach, to ensure access to healthcare for all.

10 years ago, France created L'Initiative to meet these challenges. Now implemented by Expertise France, it supports countries - mainly French-speaking - in applying for, implementing and monitoring Global Fund grants. The Initiative is committed to strengthening the capacities of governmental, associative and research players by mobilizing high-level expertise and providing financial support for catalytic projects.. It designs tailor-made solutions to meet the needs of its partner countries and populations by adapting and reinventing itself.

From Paris to Abidjan, from Yaoundé to Hanoi, this special issue of Rendez-vous de l'Expertise answers the following questions: what role does the Initiative play in France's global health strategy? What impact do the projects supported by the Initiative have on the development of public policies in partner countries? What added value does Expertise France bring to capacity building and the deployment of technical assistance?
